For PSE electric customers:

Heating systems
  • Ductless heat pump (1.0 ton minimum): $800
  • ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pump: $1,500
  • Forced-air furnace to air-source heat pump conversion: $1,000
  • Air-source heat pump: $200 - $350
  • Heat pump sizing and lock-out control: $200
Water heating systems
  • ENERGY STAR® qualified heat pump water heater: $250
  • Storage (.94 Energy Factor or higher): $50
  • Waste-water heat recovery system: $250
Appliances
  • Clothes washer: $50-$100
  • Pick-up and recycling of old refrigerators: Free+$30

Electronics

  • Look for the “Energy Forward” label to find the most efficient electronics on the market
Lighting (instant in-store discount)
  • Compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs: Up to $3
  • CFL fixtures: Up to $12
Converting to natural gas
  • Home and water heating: $1,950 – $3,950
  • Home heating only: $500 – $2,500
  • Water heating only: $950
For PSE natural gas customers:
Heating systems
  • ENERGY STAR qualified boiler (95 percent AFUE): $350
  • ENERGY STAR qualified forced-air furnace: $100
  • Fireplace: $200
Water heating systems
  • ENERGY STAR qualified tankless: $150-$200
  • ENERGY STAR qualified storage (.67 Energy Factor or higher): $100
For PSE electric and/or natural gas customers:
Insulation
  • Floor insulation: 50 percent of the cost, up to $200
  • Attic insulation: 50 percent of the cost, up to $200
  • Wall insulation: 50 percent of the cost, up to $200
  • Duct insulation: 50 percent of the cost, up to $200
  • Duct sealing: Free for qualifying customers
New homes
  • ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured home: $150 – $300

2010 is starting out to be an exciting year for energy efficiency and renewable energy supporters. Community Energy Solutions is happy to tell you that our Community Smart Power Program is taking shape.  Already, over ten families have gone through the energy audit (home performance analysis), and are on the path to add more comfort to their home while saving energy.  More than thirty people have attended the energy audit field trips, and heard unbiased advice from experienced home performance professionals in how to improve one’s home energy efficiency.

Oliver Johnson Family.jpg CES Renewables for All program brings solar hot water system to Habitat home

Thanks to the generosity of the Renewables for All donors, Community Energy Solutions is finishing its first joint project with Habitat for Humanity of Kitap County. Felicia Oliver-Johnson and her family will soon become the first Habitat sponsored homeowner in Washington State to have hot showers powered by the sun.

Save your date for the dedication of the project on March 27, 2010. More details to follow.

Home Star Program – a proposed federal legislation that will provide attractive incentives to homeowners investing in home energy efficiency improvements, create local jobs, and reduce carbon emissions.

Current WA State Legislative Session
Community Solar Bill (SB6658) – Washington State legislatures will have a chance to vote on a bill that helps to clear the final hurdle to make community solar truly possible in the State.

Energy Efficiency Financing Act (SB6656/HB2853) - Provides opportunity to create an Energy Efficiency Financing Act.  Amanda Eichel of the Seattle Office of Sustainability calls this bill “the single most important bill for Seattle to stimulate demand for energy efficiency.”

At this time Energy Trust of Oregon’s 2008 Energy Performance Score pilot is now complete and we invite you to read the final Findings & Recommendations report. The goal of the pilot was to develop a performance metric for existing homes that could be applicable to new construction homes and would reflect energy consumption and carbon emissions—an “MPG” for homes. In creating the metric, the pilot compared home energy modeling tools for their accuracy and ease of use in estimating home energy consumption.

Earth Advantage conducted the pilot for Energy Trust of Oregon, performing the home audits, data analysis, and the writing of the report. Conservation Services Group (CSG), the Home Energy Solutions – Existing Homes program implementation contractor, managed the pilot with Energy Trust of Oregon.

Please feel free to circulate this link and inform others of the release of this report. We feel the report’s discussion of home energy performance metrics is pertinent to many ongoing discussions on this topic.
